About Bomb Busters

Bomb Busters is a cooperative deduction game where each player holds a rack of numbered wires in ascending order, visible only to them, and the team has to cut them all without hitting the detonator. Communication is tightly limited, so most of the game is inference from what people have already cut. It ships with dozens of missions that layer new rules on gradually.

Is Bomb Busters Right for You?

Best for

Bomb Busters is for groups who liked Hanabi but wanted something less punishing and more talkative. It plays in half an hour, the mission structure means each session ends somewhere new, and it is one of the few deduction games that works equally well with gamers and with a family. Four is the ideal count.

Maybe skip it if…

If your group includes one person who will quietly solve the whole rack while everyone else watches, this game will surface that immediately. It also needs everybody paying attention every turn, so it is a poor fit for a distracted table.

How to Play Bomb Busters

Setup

Each player draws a set of wire tiles and arranges them in ascending order on their rack, hidden from everyone else. Set the mission card and place the detonator tiles.

On Your Turn

  1. Announce a number and point at another player, declaring that you believe they hold it.
  2. If they do, both matching wires are cut and the team continues. If not, the team takes a strike.
  3. Reveal information only through the limited channels the mission allows.

How to Win

Cut every wire before the strikes run out or a detonator wire is hit.

💡 Strategy Tips

Ascending order is the whole game. If someone cut a 7 from the middle of their rack, you now know a lot about both ends.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting that the racks are sorted. New players treat the wires as a random hand and throw away the single most useful piece of information in the game.
  • Calling a number you are merely hopeful about early. An early strike costs far more than a slow, safe opening.
  • Not tracking what has already been cut across all players. The pool of remaining numbers is public information and most tables underuse it.
  • Skipping ahead in the mission book. The missions teach the rules in sequence and jumping in at mission twenty is genuinely confusing.

Advanced Strategy

  • Say what you can rule out, not just what you know. Negative information is legal to reason aloud about and is often more valuable.
  • When you hold a tight cluster of numbers, get them cut early while the pool is wide. Clusters become dangerous as options narrow.
  • Watch for players who go quiet. Someone with an awkward rack usually stops volunteering, and that is information too.
  • Keep the detonator numbers in everyone's mind out loud. The most common loss is a confident call on a number somebody forgot was live.

Variants & House Rules

The mission campaign

The box holds dozens of numbered missions that introduce new wire types and restrictions. Playing them in order is the intended experience.

Bomb Busters: The Pro Kit

An expansion with harder missions for teams who have cleared the base book and want the difficulty pushed further.

Our Verdict

Bomb Busters is the best new cooperative deduction game we have played since The Crew, and it is friendlier than either that or Hanabi. The sorted racks turn every cut into a small logic puzzle for the whole table, and the mission book gives it staying power that most party-weight co-ops lack. Easy recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bomb Busters like Hanabi?

They share hidden-information deduction, but Bomb Busters allows more open discussion and is considerably less punishing. Most groups find it the easier sell.

How many missions are in the box?

Dozens, structured as a campaign that gradually introduces new wire types. Expect many sessions before you exhaust it.

Does it work with two players?

It supports two but the deduction thins out considerably. Four is where it is best.
