Privacy Policy

Game Night Guide helps visitors discover board games, compare options, plan game nights, and find classic card games. This policy explains what information the site stores, which third-party services may receive data, and how advertising consent is handled.

Who We Are

Game Night Guide is available at gamenight.guide and is operated from Iceland. For privacy questions, email privacy@gamenight.guide.

Information Stored on This Device

The site uses browser local storage for app preferences and saved game data. These values are stored in your browser and are not sent to a Game Night Guide account or database.

  • wsip_favorites stores games you saved to your list.
  • wsip_played stores games you marked as already played.
  • wsip_owned stores games you marked as owned, on your shelf.
  • wsip_ratings stores your local game ratings.
  • Saved lists hold only game identifiers, not game details. For a game you saved from BoardGameGeek search rather than our own catalogue, its details are fetched from BoardGameGeek when you open My List, so nothing about it is stored on your device beyond its identifier.
  • wsip_compare_hint_dismissed stores whether you dismissed the compare tip.
  • wsip_theme stores your light or dark theme preference.
  • wsip_cookie_consent stores your cookie preference choice (see Advertising and Consent below).

You can remove this information by clearing site data, local storage, or cookies for this site in your browser settings. If your browser syncs site data across devices, these values may sync according to your browser account settings.

Advertising and Consent

On your first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept all local storage, allow only what is necessary for the site to work, or manage preferences directly. The necessary category (saved games, ratings, and theme) is always on and required for core features to work. The advertising category is off by default and only takes effect if we bring back a non-Google display-ad network in the future — it is not needed for the site to function.

Game Night Guide does not currently show any third-party display ads. We previously tested ad networks and turned them off; if that changes in the future (for example, if we reapply to Google AdSense), this section will be updated first, and, where required, Google AdSense Privacy & messaging will be used as the consent management platform for the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.

Affiliate Links

Some articles on Game Night Guide contain affiliate links, primarily to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases made through these links, at no extra cost to you. Any page containing affiliate links carries its own disclosure notice near the top of the article. Clicking an affiliate link may set a cookie or similar identifier on Amazon's site so that a purchase can be attributed to us; we do not receive or store any details about what you purchase.

Third-Party Services

The site may request game data, images, videos, or hosting resources from third-party services, and articles may link out to retailers through affiliate programs. These services can receive technical information such as your IP address, browser details, referring page, and the query or page needed to return content.

Analytics

The site does not currently load a dedicated analytics product. Hosting providers may still keep standard request logs for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.

Your Rights and Choices

You can reopen the cookie preferences dialog at any time from the Privacy and cookie settings link in the site footer. If Google AdSense is active, that dialog also links to Google's own ad-personalization controls; you can otherwise manage Google ad personalization directly at Google Ad Settings.

You can clear local storage and cookies in your browser settings. Doing this removes saved games, ratings, preferences, and any stored consent choices for this site. For questions or requests, email privacy@gamenight.guide.

Data Retention

Local storage values remain in your browser until you clear them or your browser removes them. Third-party services retain data according to their own privacy policies and retention practices.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

This policy may be updated as site features, advertising configuration, or third-party services change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
