About Ghost Blitz
Ghost Blitz puts five wooden objects in the middle of the table: a white ghost, a red chair, a blue book, a green bottle and a grey mouse. A card is flipped showing two of them, usually in the wrong colours. If one object is shown in its true colour, grab it; if neither is, grab the object that is neither pictured nor coloured on the card. It is a proper brain-teaser played at full speed, and children often beat the adults.

Is Ghost Blitz Right for You?
Best for
Ghost Blitz is for families and groups who like quick reaction games with a puzzle twist. It works best with three to five players, where everyone can reach the objects easily. It also works as a fun challenge for adults, since the rules trick the brain even after many games.
Maybe skip it if…
Players who hate speed games will not enjoy the pressure. At seven or eight, it can be hard for everyone to reach the objects fairly.
How to Play Ghost Blitz
Setup
Place the five objects in the middle where everyone can reach them. Shuffle the cards into a face-down pile.
On Your Turn
- One player turns over the top card so everyone sees it at the same time.
- If an object appears in its correct colour, grab that object.
- If no object is shown in its correct colour, grab the one whose picture and colour are both missing from the card.
- The first correct grab wins the card; a wrong grab costs you one of the cards you have already won.
How to Win
When the pile runs out, the player with the most cards wins.
💡 Strategy Tips
For the trickier cards, rule out rather than search: name the two pictured objects and the colours shown, and the answer is whatever is left.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Grabbing the first object you recognise. The card often shows it in the wrong colour.
- Forgetting the rule for when nothing matches. Then you need the object neither pictured nor coloured.
- Sitting too far from the objects. Make sure everyone can reach them equally.
- Grabbing more than one object. You only get one try.
Advanced Strategy
- Learn the five objects and colours by heart. You should not need to check the table.
- Use elimination on tricky cards: name what is shown, then grab what is left.
- Keep your hands relaxed. Speed matters less than accuracy.
- Play the shout variant once you know the game. It keeps it fresh.
Variants & House Rules
Ghost shout
An official variant: when the book appears on a card, players must shout the name of the correct object instead of grabbing it.
Ghost Blitz 2
A standalone sequel with new objects. It can be combined with the original for a harder game.
Geistesblitz 5 vor 12
Another standalone version with more objects and colours, for players who want an even tougher test.

Our Verdict
Ghost Blitz is a clever twist on reaction games, and its simple rule creates real brain-teasers. It is a family game first, and it can be a little tricky at the top of its player count, but for three to five players it is quick, funny and fair. We recommend it for families and mixed-age groups.
