About Sushi Go!
Perfect filler game — quick, fun, and tactile. Draft cards simultaneously to build the most valuable sushi meal. Different cards score in different delightful ways.
Is Sushi Go! Right for You?
Best for
Sushi Go! is a delightful card-drafting filler for two to five players, including families. You simultaneously pick cards from a hand that passes around the table, building the best meal of nigiri, maki, sashimi, and more. It teaches in two minutes and plays in fifteen — the perfect appetiser game.
Maybe skip it if…
It is light and quick by design; players seeking deep strategy or long sessions will find it slight. The scoring quirks (especially pudding) can confuse first-timers.
How to Play Sushi Go!
Setup
Deal 10 cards each. Place remaining deck aside.
On Your Turn
- Everyone picks 1 card face-down simultaneously.
- Reveal and pass hand to the left.
- Repeat until empty. Score round.
How to Win
3 rounds. Score for Maki, Tempura (pairs), Sashimi (3s), Dumplings (escalating), Nigiri, Pudding (end of game).
💡 Strategy Tips
Watch neighbours' collections. Block maki. Don't forget pudding — it only scores at the very end.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting pudding only scores at the very end of all three rounds — and last place loses points for it.
- Chasing sashimi (which needs three to score anything) without enough cards left to complete a set.
- Ignoring what neighbours are collecting — drafting is as much about denial as gain.
- Overvaluing maki; the maki bonus only goes to the most and second-most, so a middling maki count scores nothing.
Advanced Strategy
- Grab a chopsticks card early — it lets you take two cards in a later turn to complete a high-value set like sashimi.
- Count maki icons around the table; only commit to maki if you can realistically reach first or second place.
- Keep an eye on pudding across all three rounds — being last in pudding is a six-point swing at game end.
- Tempura and dumplings reward completed pairs and quantity respectively; commit fully or not at all.
